Police arrest drink and drug drivers across Warwickshire

Warwickshire Police are continuing to increase their patrols across the county to target and arrest suspected drink and drug drivers over Christmas and the New Year. 

Recent arrests include:-

  • Thanks to a phone call to the police about a suspected drink driver, a 41 year old woman from Bedworth was arrested at 17.37hours on 4 December in Dark Lane. Officers located the woman and she failed a breath test and was arrested. She has since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Other drivers were arrested following collisions including:-

  • A 34 year old man from Thamesmead, London who was arrested at 2300hours on 7 December on suspicion of drink driving when police were called to a collision where a vehicle had collided with a telegraph pole snapping it in half causing the cables to drop onto the road on the B4452 near Ufton. Part of the Pole also hit another motorist’s vehicle causing damage. The driver was located nearby and failed a roadside breath test.  He was later charged with drink driving to appear before Warwickshire Magistrates on 26 January 2024.
  • A 26 year old man from Atherstone was arrested at 2200hours on 3 December on suspicion of drink driving after police were called to a collision where a car had collided with a tree on Coleshill Road, Atherstone. The driver was located nearby and failed a roadside breath test.  He was later charged with drink driving to appear before Warwickshire Magistrates on 19 January 2024.
  • A 26 year old man from Nuneaton was arrested at 00.25hours on 6 December in Donnithorne Avenue, Nuneaton on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs after police were called to a collision on Heart of England Way, Nuneaton. Officers arrived and the 26 year old was located nearby.  He was arrested for aggravated vehicle taking and for failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis and has been released on police bail pending further investigation.

 Other arrests were down to effective police work, including

  • A 32 year old woman from Wellesbourne, Warwick who was arrested at 15.10hours on 3 December on suspicion of drug driving on the Birmingham Road near Wilmcote, Stratford upon Avon when police stopped her vehicle and she failed a roadside drug swipe. She was later released on bail pending further enquiries.
  • A 57 year old man from Nuneaton was arrested at 23.40hours on 3 December on suspicion of drug driving on Green Lane, Nuneaton when his car was stopped for a moving traffic offence. He failed a roadside drug swipe and was arrested.  He was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.
  • A 38 year old man from Wolverhampton was arrested at 02.55hours on 7 December in Hampton Lane, Meriden after officers found him sat in his car. He refused to provide a breath test and was arrested and later charged with this to appear before Warwickshire Magistrates on 26 January. 2024.
  • A 19 year old man from Kenilworth was arrested at 22.05hours on 6 December on the A46 on suspicion of drug driving. He is due to answer bail in the New Year.

Sergeant Simon Dalby who is leading the operation said “Officers across Warwickshire are actively looking to arrest suspected drink and drug drivers so the chance of being caught if you choose to drink or take illegal drugs and drive is high. There are no excuses.  If you are going out drinking, please plan ahead and book a taxi or choose a location within walking distance of home.”
