GoodSAM is a web-based communication tool that allows you to talk with an officer via a remote video consultation.

GoodSAM is a web-based communication tool that allows you to communicate directly with an officer via a remote video consultation.
A video consultation can be conducted on your mobile phone or laptop if it has a camera. To have a remote video consultation with an officer, you do not need to download an App. If you agree to a video consultation, you will be sent a link to access the appointment. During the appointment you can also send files (images etc.) to the officer. This is also done via a link that you click on to upload the files.
GoodSAM has many benefits for both you and the police. The aim is to improve our service to you, improve public confidence and make you feel safe by providing multiple ways you can talk to us from the safety of your own home.
It can help us with decision making and allow us to capture key evidence. Our key reasons for using GoodSAM are to:

For sensitive data processing1, the lawful basis is:
(a)the processing is strictly necessary for the law enforcement purpose,
(b)the processing meets at least one of the conditions in Schedule 8, and
(c)at the time when the processing is carried out, the controller has an appropriate policy document in place (see section 42).
If you contact Warwickshire Police and your concern is deemed suitable for a video consultation, you will be offered a remote appointment either on the same day or at a time convenient to you. If you agree to a video consultation, you will be sent a link via a text or email. You do not need to download an App; you simply click on the link at the at the appointment time to access your appointment.
As with a regular phone call, you can terminate the call any time you wish. Once the appointment has ended, neither you nor Warwickshire will be able to access the link.
PLEASE NOTE: All video consultations are recorded for evidential purposes.
We are currently only using GoodSAM to conduct remote video consultations. This is where you can have a remote appointment with an officer. You do not need to visit a station. By clicking on a link sent to you, you can have a digital ‘face-to-face' appointment.
We will collect and use personal information relating to you, the consultation, our officers and staff. Examples include:
What happens if I accidentally upload the wrong photograph or video?
Your privacy is important to us. Warwickshire Police only seek to obtain and retain photographs or videos relating to their law enforcement purposes. If you submit a photo or video in error, you should submit a ‘Request for Record Deletion’ to the Force Records Manager. Requests for deletion need to be submitted to: [email protected]
Conducting a video consultation or streaming live video through GoodSAM will use a small amount of your 3G/4G/5G mobile data allowance if you are not connected to Wi-Fi. If you are connected to Wi-Fi, then your mobile data will not be used.
We will have no access to any data on your device either during or after use of GoodSAM. To facilitate a consultation, you must enable both your microphone and camera. Once the consultation is complete, the microphone and camera feed will disconnect from GoodSAM and no longer be available to the officer or force.
All video, audio and submitted files transmitted via or captured during a GoodSAM consultation is recorded. Nothing will be stored on your device. Any recordings or media that we store may form part of a criminal investigation. All footage will be dealt with sensitively and redacted where required.
Material is stored on the GoodSAM server for up to 60 days. After this, we hold and manage the footage on our own data evidence management system in line with MoPI (Management of Police Information) rules.
The footage obtained via GoodSAM will not routinely be shared with any third parties, unless it is deemed necessary and proportionate and there is a lawful basis to do so.
GoodSAM is a fully auditable platform and have a data protection policy.
The GoodSAM platform has been through a rigorous security assessment, and all data (both data being transmitted, and data being stored) is fully encrypted.
GoodSAM is a well-established platform that is being used by other police forces and ambulance services across the world.
Attending a video consultation using the GoodSAM technology is voluntary, and you have a choice if you wish to see an officer in person. Part 3 of the Data Protection Act 2018 sets out the following individual rights:
