We’d like to reassure the community and ask for witnesses to come forward after a stabbing in Nuneaton.
Shortly after 5.30pm on Sunday (18 January), the Ambulance Service reported a man with stab wounds walking on Gadsby Street.
The man in his 40s is understood to have been attacked on Attleborough Road at around 5pm.
Our officers quickly attended the scene, and he was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds that are not believed to be life-threatening. He remains in a stable condition.
While we carried out our initial enquiries to try and work out what had happened, we had temporary orders in place allowing us to stop and search people and vehicles. Thank you to everyone who cooperated with us.
Later that evening, we arrested a 34-year-old man from Nuneaton on suspicion of assault - GBH and a 33-year-old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender. They have been bailed pending further enquiries.
On Monday evening (19 January) a second man - aged 43 from Nuneaton - was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in custody.
Detective Sergeant Magnus McAuley said: “The man is making good progress and should hopefully recover from his injuries, but I know what’s happened will be concerning for the community.
“We believe the attack to be isolated and have made three arrests so far. We’re pursuing several lines of enquiry as we attempt to identify any other people who may have been involved.
“The public can expect to see a heightened presence over the coming days so please speak to one of our officers if you have any information or questions about what’s happened.
“We know people were in area surrounding Gadsby Street and there may bee others who were approached by the victim or saw the incident in Attleborough Street, so if you have any information, please get in touch.
“Equally, if you have mobile phone, doorbell or dashcam footage of the attack, please come forward and share it with us. It could really help with our ongoing investigation.”
Any witnesses or anyone with footage is asked to contact us quoting incident number 257 of 18 January.
Information can also be provided anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers via their website or by calling 0800 555 111.
