Two men arrested after man dies in suspected collision

We have arrested two people after a man’s body was discovered in a road near Atherstone in the early hours of Friday (3 April) morning.

The body of the man in his 50s was discovered in Monk’s Park Lane just after 1.30am.

Our main line of enquiry is that a vehicle collided with him and left the scene.

A couple of hours later a 23-year-old man from Nuneaton and a 74-year-old man from Shifnal were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

They have both been bailed while enquiries continue.

PC Craig Pearson from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “An investigation into the incident has started to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

"I'm especially keen to speak to anyone who saw or has video footage of a red Mercedes Vito van in the area around the time of the incident. I’d ask anyone in the area to please check CCTV, doorbell cameras and dashcam footage.

"Our thoughts are with the family of the man who lost his life, they are currently being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer.”
