Working in policing, we’re always ready to respond in an emergency.
But one of our Special Constables had a slightly unexpected end to his day – springing into action to save his neighbour from a fire.
Mike Beddoes was off-duty at home duty one evening when he saw smoke coming from a neighbour’s house.
Without hesitation, he went straight over and found a garden fire was burning out of control.
With the outbuildings and trees already in flames and the elderly occupant in distress, he quickly put out the fire and gave first aid to his neighbour.
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service's Watch Manager has since told Mike that if he hadn’t acted so quickly, the fire would have almost certainly spread to neighbouring homes and garages.

Mike’s brave and heroic actions were recognised as he was given a commendation by Chief Superintendent Jon Belcher at a recent awards ceremony.
