Operation Spigot was launched back in October in a bid to tackle knife crime in Rugby borough. The operation, which has seen individuals being arrested on suspicion of possessing bladed articles and a number of weapons being removed from the streets, will continue over the Christmas period.

Police arrested a 36 year old man from Rugby on suspicion of failing to provide a breath test after the car he was driving collided with a bridge in Thurnmill Road, Long Lawford, Rugby at 20.27 hours on Monday 7 December. There was significant damage to the vehicle. Fortunately he and two other occupants of the vehicle were not injured. The 36 year old has been released under investigation after spending over 12 hours in police custody.
Over the weekend front line officers including Patrol, SNT, Vehicle Crime Teams and OPU have been helping make Warwickshire’s roads safer for everyone this festive season by identifying and arresting drivers believed to be under the influence of drink or drugs.

A 25-year-old man from Birmingham was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs and a second 25-year-old man from Moseley on suspicion of driving dangerously, failing to stop and being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs following an incident in Rugby on Thursday (3 December).

A 21-year-old man from was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, driving with excess drugs, possession of class B/C drugs and a traffic offence following a search by officers after a car was stopped in Rugby on Wednesday (2 December) as part of an ongoing policing operation.
Warwickshire Police has made further arrests for driving under the influence of drink or drugs as all front line officers including Patrol, SNT, Vehicle Crime Teams and OPU support the anti drink and drug drive campaign this festive season with the aim of making our roads safer for everyone.
During the first day of a national operation to target those suspected of driving under the influence of drink or drugs over the festive period the public alerted the police to a car being driven by a man who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol. Officers on patrol spotted the car and stopped it in Clarendon Avenue, Leamington Spa at 11.15am on 1 December.
A 46-year-old man from Rugby man has been arrested as part of a stop search in the town. Officers from Rugby’s Proactive CID team were patrolling on Lower Hillmorton Road at 11.30am on Wednesday (2 December) when they witnessed a suspected drug deal taking place.
