FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 77-2026
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 19th January 2026 as follows:
The request relates to investigations and convictions of police officers working for your force from 3 March 2021 to 29 December 2025 for the following offence groups:
Rape (all offences in the Sexual offences subclass of rape)
Other sexual offences (all offences in the Sexual offences subclass of other sexual offences)
Stalking and harassment (all offences in Violence against the person subclass of Stalking and Harassment)
And then also specifically for the following offence types within other sexual offences (I am aware these will be double counted):
Indecent exposure (HOC 88/09)
Voyeurism (HOC 88/10, 88/12, 88/13, and 88/14)
Q1. For the period 3 March 2021 to 29 December 2025 please provide the number of individual police officers working for your force who were investigated for the below criminal offences, and the total number of criminal investigations (i.e. if an individual was investigated on more than one occasion, I would expect the number of investigations to be higher than the number of individuals). Note: I am aware of anonymity concerns. If the number is between 1-4, please say <5, and if it’s 0, please say 0.

Please also provide the total number of charges and total number of convictions (i.e. if an individual was charged or convicted on more than one occasion, I would expect the total number to be higher than the number of individuals). Response: Please be advised that the requested information is not centrally recorded and is therefore not held in a readily retrievable format. Following an extensive scoping exercise, the business area has advised that, in order to locate and retrieve the requested information, a detailed manual review of 75 Conduct and Complaint cases is required to confirm relevance and, where necessary, extract the requested information. At an estimate of 15 minutes per case, this equates to a further 19 hours of work. Therefore, this would exceed the amount to which we are legally required to respond, i.e., the cost of locating and retrieving the information exceeds the ‘appropriate level’ as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004. For Police forces in the UK, the "appropriate limit" is up to 18 hours of work on one request.
In accordance with Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this letter therefore acts as a Refusal Notice for this request.
In accordance with Section 16 of the Act, I have a duty to provide advice and assistance on refining your request. I can advise that should you wish to revise and resubmit, it may be possible to provide some information for a period of 1 to 2 years. Please note however that any resulting information would still be subject to the usual disclosure considerations.
