FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 587-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 30th May 2025 as follows:
Q1. How many sexual assaults and rapes were reported where both the alleged victim and perpetrator were under 18 in 2024?
Q2. How many reported incidents of sexual assault including rape took place on school property in 2024?
Q3. How many reports were there of coercive control with an alleged victim aged under 20 in 2024?
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
When considering the information please note the following:
- Searches of the Crime Recording System were conducted for the period 1st January to 31st December 2024 for all notifiable offences with a primary classification of Rape or Sexual Assault.
- For Sexual Assault, please note that only offences that contain ‘Sexual Assault’ in the offence title have been included. All other sexual offences not containing ‘Sexual Assault’ in the offence title have been excluded.
- For Q1, these search results were refined for all crimes with at least one victim and one suspect role recorded and where at least one victim and one suspect on the same crime were under 18 at the time.
- For Q2, the original search results were refined to where the Location Premise Type was recorded as ‘School’ or the Location Premise Name matched those on our master list of schools in Warwickshire. We have not considered victim or suspect roles in this part of the request and have included all Rape and Sexual Assault offences irrespective of whether there is a victim and/or suspect role recorded.
- Location Premise Type and Location Premise Name are not mandatory fields and are not always completed. In addition, Location Type may refer to the closest point of reference. For example, where an incident occurs in the street, immediately outside a school, then a Location Premise Type of ‘School’ may be recorded on the crime. For this reason, the results for Q2 cannot be assumed to be entirely accurate.
- For Q3, searches of the Crime Recording System were conducted for the period 1st January to 31st December 2024 for all notifiable offences with a primary classification of Controlling or Coercive Behaviour and with at least one victim role recorded where at least one victim was under 20 at the time of the offence.
- Please note that a crime will not always have a victim and/or suspect role recorded, and some crimes will have more than one victim and/or suspect role recorded. Therefore, the number of victims/suspects will not correlate with the number of crimes.
- The numerical data presented below is an unaudited snapshot of unpublished data sourced from "live" systems and is subject to the interpretation of the original request by the individual extracting the data.
