FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 534-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 14th May 2025 as follows:
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 regarding road traffic collisions within your jurisdiction for the years 2022, 2023, and 2024.
For your entire jurisdiction, please provide:
a)The total number of reported road traffic collisions each year for cars / motorbikes / pedestrians / cycling.
b)The five roads with the highest number of collisions
c)The contributory factors (e.g., speeding, reckless driving, driving under the influence, weather conditions, etc.)
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: Please be advised that not all of the requested information is held in a readily retrievable format. Damage only collisions (no injury) are not required for statistical purposes and this information is not routinely recorded on the collision system. Searches were conducted of the Command & Control System for reports of damage only collisions reported during the stated period. The number of such reports are set out in the table below.
|
Year |
Total |
|
2022 |
4299 |
|
2023 |
4403 |
|
2024 |
4154 |
|
Grand total |
12856 |
As you will see, there have been 12856 incidents recorded during the stated period and, in order to ascertain whether information is recorded in relation to detail such as vehicle type and contributing factors, it would be necessary to manually review each and every incident on an individual basis. Such searches would take an inordinate amount of time and would greatly exceed the cost threshold of £450, which equates to 18 hours work at a standard rate of £25 per hour, as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.
In accordance with Section 12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this letter acts as a Refusal Notice for this part of the request and, if one part of a request exceeds the fees limit, then section 12 of the Act applies to the whole request.
In accordance with Section 16 of the Act, I have a duty to provide advice and assistance in relation to refining your request and can advise that injury collisions are recorded for statistical purposes and were you to request information in relation to just injury only collisions we may be able to provide a response to your request within the fees limit.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
Freedom of Information Officer
