FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 502-2025

I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 7^th May 2025 as follows:

Q1. The number of reported offences or incidents recorded in your force area in 2024 relating to:

1. a) Obstructed vehicle number plates

1. b) Illegally modified or non-compliant number plates (e.g. incorrect font, spacing, size, ghost plates or use of non-standard characters)

Q2, Additionally, please confirm whether your force actively conducts specific operations or checks targeting illegal or obscured number plates.

Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.

Q1 response: Please note that the below table represents the number of Fixed Penalty Notices issued for the following number plate offences, recorded during the stated period:

-         Drive a vehicle when the registration mark fails to conform with regulations

-         Drive a vehicle with registration mark obscured / indistinguishable

-         Keep a vehicle when registration mark fails to conform with the regulations

Q2 response: No information held regarding specific operations; however, all our Roads Policing Officers are cognisant of number plate legislation and will deal with number plate offences as part of their patrols.
