FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 662-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 27th June 2025 as follows:
Q1. How many drivers in total were fined for not wearing a seatbelt in your district in the last 12 months/in the previous 12 months up until your most recent data set?
Q2. How many drivers between the ages of 17 and 29 were fined for not wearing a seatbelt in your district in the last 12 months/in the previous 12 months up until your most recent data set?
Q3. The number of casualties caused by drivers not wearing a seatbelt in your district in the last 12 months/in the previous 12 months up until your most recent data set?
Q4. The top 3 months where you reported the highest numbers of drivers being fined for not wearing a seatbelt in your district in the last 12 months/in the previous 12 months up until your most recent data set?
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Q1 response: 103 (based on Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) issued for this offence, in the period 1st May 2024 to 31st May 2025).
Q2 response: 31 (based on age at time of offence).
Q3 response: On reviewing Road Traffic Collision reports (RTCs) for the period 1st January 2024 to 31st December 2024 (the most recent complete and reliable data for RTCs), records show 39 casualties where a seatbelt was confirmed as not being worn. However, please note that whether a seatbelt was worn or not is only recorded for casualties and not all vehicle occupants. In addition, in most cases it is unknown whether a driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of a collision, as drivers generally self-extricate from the vehicle before police arrival, and, in the case of fail to stop, the driver may not be identified. Therefore, this response should be treated with caution.
Q4 response: April, May, July (based on Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) issued for the period 1st May 2024 to 31st May 2025).
Please note that the numerical data presented in this response is an un-audited snapshot of un-published data sourced from "live" systems and is subject to the interpretation of the original request by the individual extracting the data.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible; however, the data is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large-scale recording system that relies on manual input, therefore care should be taken to ensure data collection processes, and their inevitable limitations are considered when interpreting the data.
