FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 655-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 25th June 2025 as follows:
Please provide the police force's current operational guidance or internal training materials on handling reports of economic abuse as defined in Section 1(3)(d) of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: No guidance or training materials relating specifically to economic abuse held, and therefore our response to this request is no information held.
Outside of the Act and in order to provide assistance, I can advise that the force recognises the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 statutory definition of Domestic Abuse, which clarifies that ‘abusive’ behaviour could consist of economic abuse. The recording of any such behaviour is in line with the National Standards of Incident Recording (NSIR) and the Home Office Counting Rules (HOCR). Further information can be found at the below link.
In addition, the Authorised Professional Practice (APP) on Domestic Abuse can be found at the below link. APP is the official source of professional practice for policing.
Finally, domestic abuse in all its presentations, as well as Adult at Risk concerns, are covered in a student officers training.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
