FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 598-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 3rd June 2025 as follows:
Q1. The number of reported road traffic accidents, broken down by year, from 2020 to 2025.
Q2. The number of reported road rage or aggressive driving incidents from 2020 to 2025.
Q3. The number of recorded driving offences from 2020 to 2025, specifically:
Speeding
Use of a mobile phone while driving
Dangerous driving
Driving without insurance
Careless or Inconsiderate Driving
Driving under the influence (alcohol or drugs)
Driving whilst disqualified
Causing Death or Injury by Dangerous Driving
Any other driving offences that there are
Please break down the data by year and local authority or city area if possible.
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below
Please note that the numerical data presented below is an unaudited snapshot of unpublished data sourced from "live" systems and is subject to the interpretation of the original request by the individual extracting the data.
Q1 response: Please be advised that the recording of damage only collisions (no injury) is not required for statistical purposes, therefore, the below represents the number of Road Traffic Collisions with injury, recorded for the period 2020 to 2024. It is not possible to provide an accurate figure for 2025 at this time as there may still be information that has not as yet been returned by the officer or may still be waiting for verification and/or an investigation to conclude and therefore information for 2025 is still subject to change.

Q2 response: Please be advised that the requested information is not held. There is no specific offence of ‘road rage’, or flag or marker to identify where this may be relevant to a crime. Behaviours associated with road rage can result in offences being recorded, for example dangerous or careless driving, assault, criminal damage, or public order to name just a few. However, determining what constitutes ‘road rage’ in relation to such offences, would be entirely subjective and therefore even a labour-intensive manual trawl of specific crime categories would not assist in providing a definitive number of road rage or aggressive driving occurrences.
In order to provide assistance, I have provided a link below to our response to a similar request, which offers some information by way of a keyword search, however, please note that a keyword search is not considered to be accurate:

Causing Death or Injury by Dangerous Driving
Please be advised that statistical information in relation to crimes recorded by each Police Force for ‘Death or Serious Injury Caused by Unlawful Driving’ is already published by the Home Office and is available within the public domain. Therefore, the information is exempt from disclosure by virtue of section 21 – ‘Information Reasonably Accessible by Other Means’. Please see the below link:
https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/police-recorded-crime-open-data-tables
Although the information is set out in financial year, there is a breakdown by quarter which allows for information to be obtained by calendar year. For crimes recorded, the information can be filtered to force level via the ‘Force name’ column and by specific offence via the ‘Offence code’ column or Offence Subgroup (for your specific enquiry you can filter this column to ‘Death or Serious Injury – unlawful driving’). The ‘Number of offences’ column then provides the total number of offences per quarter. The Offence Description column provides the exact offence title.
Any other driving offences that there are
Regarding your request for a breakdown of ‘any other driving offences’, the business area has advised that, in total, there are in excess of 180 different road/driving related offences. To detail each one individually by year and by Local Authority Area would take an inordinate amount of time and would exceed the cost threshold of £450, which equates to 18 hours work at a standard rate of £25 per hour, as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004. In accordance with Section 12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please treat this letter as the Refusal Notice I am required to provide to you in respect of this part of your request.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible; however, the data is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large-scale recording system that relies on manual input, therefore care should be taken to ensure data collection processes, and their inevitable limitations are considered when interpreting the data.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
