FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 753-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 23rd July 2025 as follows:
Q1. How many cases of alleged sexual assault and harassment in schools did Warwickshire Police respond to in 2024 (calendar year, 1st January - 31st December)?
Q2. How many of these cases were reports of under-18s harassing and assaulting their peers? i.e. instances of children sexually assaulting other children in school.
Q3. How many of these reports resulted in a charge?
Please be advised that there is no specific offence of ‘Sexual Harassment’. Therefore, your request has been interpreted as asking for the number of crimes of sexual assault recorded at a school, followed by the number of these where both the victim and suspect are aged under 18, and the number of these crimes with an outcome of Charge/Summons.
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
When considering the information please note that a search of the Crime Recording System was conducted for all offences, recorded between 1st January and 31st December 2024, classified under the following Home Office primary offence categories, and where the Location Premise Type was recorded as ‘School’ or the Location Premise Name matched an entry on our master list of schools in Warwickshire:
Please note that ‘Location Premise Type’ and ‘Location Premise Name’ are not mandatory fields and are not always completed. In addition, ‘Location Premise Type’ may refer to the closest point of reference. For example, where an incident occurs in the street, immediately outside a school, then a ‘Location Premise Type’ of ‘School’ may be recorded. Therefore, the results should be treated with caution.
With regard to Q2, a crime will not always have a victim and/or suspect role recorded. In addition, age/date of birth for victim and/or suspect is not always captured.
Q1 response: 35.
Q2 response: 21.
Q3 response: None.
Please note that the numerical data presented in this response is an un-audited snapshot of un-published data sourced from "live" systems and is subject to the interpretation of the original request by the individual extracting the data.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible; however, the data is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large-scale recording system that relies on manual input, therefore care should be taken to ensure data collection processes, and their inevitable limitations are considered when interpreting the data.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
