FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 76-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 16th January 2025 as follows:
Please provide data on the number of crimes recorded by your force which refer to the theft of a heat pump from a residential property in both (a) 2023 and (b) 2024. Please undertake this search by way of keyword search for ‘heat pump’ being within present within the free text fields of the MO Description / Incident Summary.
Please then review the resulting records to determine whether they relate to theft of a heat pump from residential property and provide separate figures for both years requested.
For clarity, the term ‘heat pump’ refers to the new generation of domestic central heating systems which feature a piece of heat exchange equipment installed in the external area of a property.

Response: I can advise that searches were conducted of the crime recording system and 3 crimes were located that contained the keyword ‘heat pump’ and related to thefts of heat pumps from residential properties. All 3 were recorded in 2024.
Please note that keyword searches are not carried out routinely as they are not reliable and will only bring back records where the chosen keyword(s) is present within the MO Description / Incident Summary of an investigation. These are limited free text fields and do not contain all information in relation to an investigation.
