FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI-239-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 21st February, and clarification received on 22nd and 24th February 2025, as follows:
I am trying to find out the vehicle thefts for North Warwickshire but I can’t find 2024 data including car key theft and the upward trend in the last 18 months for North Warwickshire.
On 21st February we contacted you requesting clarification as follows:
Please clarify whether you are asking for the number of crimes recorded under Home Office Crime Classification code 048/01 - Theft of a motor vehicle, recorded in the calendar year 2024, where the location district of the offence is recorded as North Warwickshire?
If so, please be advised that there is no specific offence of ‘car key theft’, and no flag or marker to easily identify where the theft of a motor vehicle involves this. The only method in which we can determine this information is from a labour-intensive manual trawl of all 048/01 - Theft of a motor vehicle offences. This element of the request is therefore going to result in a refusal notice under section 12(1) for the whole request, as the car key element will exceed the time/fee limit allocated to forces to process FOI requests.
Please therefore advise if you are happy to proceed with the below revised request:
‘Please provide the number of crimes that were recorded under crime code 048/01 - Theft of a motor vehicle in the calendar year 2024, where the Location District for the offence is North Warwickshire?’

Thank you for your reply on my request, I would like to request you supply the information for crime code 048/01 Theft of motor vehicle in the calendar year 2024. I have looked on the web site for Warwickshire but am unable to find this data.

Yes I would like to know the figures for Warwickshire, and if available by area with the focus on the northern section but if not available for the whole of the county.

Response: Searches were conducted for all offences under Home Office Code 048/01 – ‘Theft of a motor vehicle’, recorded during the period 2024. Please note that the information does not include attempt offences.
