FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI-220-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 17th February 2025 as follows:
1) How many incidents of theft of a motor vehicle were reported to your force in the following calendar years: 2024, 2023 and 2022.
2) How many of those reports resulted in an officer attending the scene in the following calendar years: 2024, 2023 and 2022.
Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in providing the response to your request and for any inconvenience that this may have caused you. Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below. When reviewing the information, please note the following:
Response:
Number of incidents with disposal code ‘theft of motor vehicle’ recorded:
2022 – 892
2023 – 728
2024 – 697
Number of incidents with disposal code ‘theft of motor vehicle’ recorded, without a blank response time:
2022 – 282
2023 – 218
2024 – 193
Please note however, that the number of incidents reported via the Command and Control System with a disposal code ‘Theft of vehicle’ does not equate to the number of crimes recorded on the Crime Recording System, during the stated period.
As a gesture of goodwill, I have also provided the number of crimes recorded under Home Office Code 048/01 – ‘Theft of motor vehicle’, during the stated period. However, although all crimes are investigated, there is no way of ascertaining, from the Crime Recording System, the number of times an officer attended the scene without reviewing each and every crime on an individual basis. Which would involve a disproportionate amount of effort and would take us over the fees limit (£450) as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.
