FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 142-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 3rd February 2025 as follows:
In 2024, how many Fixed Penalties or Prosecutions were issued by your force for:
Cycling on a footpath or causeway by the side of any road made or set apart for the use or accommodation of foot passengers
Crossing a stop line when traffic lights are on red
Failing to stop at a stop line on a road junction
Cycling without appropriate lights between sunset and sunrise
Cycling without reflectors between sunset and sunrise
Cycling without legal brakes
Cycling while under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Can you also please break these figures down by individual area.

When reviewing the response please note that this is based on searching the following offences:
- Cycling on a footpath or causeway by the side of any road made or set apart for the use or accommodation of foot passengers.
- Ride a pedal cycle on a road and fail to comply with the indication given by a traffic sign.
- Ride a pedal cycle on a road and fail to comply with the indication given by a traffic sign.
- Use a pedal cycle on a road at night when the front and/or rear position lamps were not kept lit and unobscured.
- Use a pedal cycle on a road when front/rear position lamp/retro reflector were not fitted.
- Riding, causing or permitting riding a bicycle with defective brakes (137/10)
- Pedal cyclist riding under the influence of drink or drugs (137/13)
Response: I can advise that, during the stated period, searches have located one offence relevant to your request, as follows:
‘Ride a pedal cycle on a road and fail to comply with the indication given by a traffic sign’.
