FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 823-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 7th August 2025 as follows:
As a freedom of information request, please provide, for the period from 2015 - 2025:
Q1. The number of police officers and staff investigated for misconduct, split by whether or not there was risk assessment relating to the welfare of the officer under investigation.
If there was such a risk assessment, please provide those figures split by risk category (such as low, medium or high)
Q2. The number of police officers and staff who committed suicide, split by whether or not they were subject to a misconduct investigation.
Q3. If they were subject to such an investigation, please provide those figures split by whether or not a risk assessment had been performed, and by risk category (such as low, medium or high)
Additionally, please provide each of the figures requested above split into annual totals for the period.
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Q1 response: Please be advised that the requested information is not centrally recorded and is therefore not held in a readily retrievable format. In order to determine whether a risk assessment was undertaken and the risk category recorded; it would be necessary to manually review all officer misconduct investigation records on an individual basis. The business area has advised that, for the period specified this would involve the review of over 1000 investigations and have estimated that this would take approximately 10 minutes per investigation, which would equate to over 166 hours of work. Therefore, the work involved in locating and retrieving the requested information exceeds the cost threshold of £450, which equates to 18 hours work at a standard rate of £25 per hour, as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.
In accordance with Section 12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this letter acts as a Refusal Notice for this part of the request.
In accordance with Section 16 of the Act, I have a duty to provide advice and assistance on refining your request; however, due to the volume of records that would need to be individually reviewed, I am unable to suggest a way to reduce this part of the request into one that could be managed within the fees limit.
Q2 response: Please be advised that the requested information is not held. Warwickshire Police record deaths, but do not record the cause of death.
Q3 response: Not applicable.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
