FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 798-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 5th August 2025 as follows:
Please provide the number of full-time equivalent (FTE) police officers employed by your force for each calendar year from 2000 to the most recent year for which data is available.
If possible, please break the figures down by:
If the data prior to a certain year is unavailable or archived, please state that explicitly.
For the purposes of this request, I am seeking data on warranted officers only (excluding PCSOs, special constables, and civilian staff).
If you hold data by financial year rather than calendar year, please provide it in that format and indicate accordingly.
Response: Section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 requires Warwickshire Police, when refusing to provide such information (because the information is exempt) to provide you the applicant with a notice which:
(a) states that fact,
(b) specifies the exemption in question and
(c) states (if that would not otherwise be apparent) why the exemption applies.
I can advise that police workforce statistics are published annually, represented as at 31st March of each year, and can be viewed at the following link:
Information can then be filtered by year to force level via the ‘Force name’ column, by ‘worker type’ in order to exclude PCSOs, Special Constables and Police Staff, and rank will be shown in the ‘Rank’ column. The FTE headcount can then be determined by adding up the figures in the ‘Headcount (FTE)’ column.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
Freedom of Information Officer
