FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 444-2025
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 15th April 2025 and clarification received on 17th April 2025, as follows:
I would be grateful if you can advise me of how many reports of non violent domestic abuse have been reported to Warwickshire police ( emotional abuse) in the last 5 years and how many prosecutions have taken place.
On 15th April we contacted you for clarification as follows:
We are writing in connection with your request for information received on 15th April 2025, as follows:
How many non violent cases of domestic abuse have been reported to Warwickshire police each year over the last five years and how many prosecutions occurred
Your request is being considered in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, however, in order to proceed, we require further information from you.
Please be advised that there is no specific offence of ‘domestic abuse’. Where domestic abuse is believed to be a factor in a crime, an included classification of 'non-crime domestic abuse investigation' is added.
Therefore, please advise which crimes you are referring to where you state ‘non-violent cases’, so that a search can be conducted to locate where these appear with an included classification of ‘domestic abuse investigation’.
On 15th April you provided the following:
Thank you for your response - I am looking at an offence when perpetrator and victim are in a domestic relationship - so I am interested in where emotional or financial abuse has been observed in the offence. If it helps I am specifically interested in prosecutions in relation to coercive control over the last 5 years.
On 16th April 2025 we requested further clarification as follows:
I can advise that there is a specific offence under Home Office Code 008/67 - Engage in controlling/coercive behaviour in an intimate / family relationship. It would be possible to provide the number of such offences for each year from 2020 to 2024 and also the outcomes of those offences (this would include those outcomed as charged which would denote a prosecution). It may also be possible to provide the number which are recorded as having a suspect/victim relationship indicating an intimate relationship (eg ‘partner’).
Please advise how you wish to proceed. In the meantime I have provided a link to a previous request which asked for similar information, which is published on our disclosure log and may be of interest to you (however, please note that this information only goes up to May 2024):
FOI 525-2024 / May 2024 / Coercive behaviour | Warwickshire Police
On 16th April 2025 you responded as follows:
Thank you. Please can you search against this specific offence
On 16th April we contacted you further as follows:
Thank you for confirming that you require searches to be made against this specific offence; however, it is not clear what further information you require. In order to progress with your request could you please confirm that the wording of your request is now as follows:
Please can you provide the number of offences under Home Office Code ‘008/67 - Engage in controlling/coercive behaviour in an intimate / family relationship’, recorded in each year from 2020 to 2024. Please can you provide the outcomes of those offences.
