FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 494-2024
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 8th May 2024 as follows:
Q1. How many offensive weapons were found in educational establishments in the following calendar years: 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023
For each recorded find, please include:
- The type of offensive weapon
- The type of establishment (e.g primary school, secondary school, college)
- The age and sex of the suspect (if known and possible)
- The outcome (e.g whether there was an arrest)
Q2. How many crimes were recorded in educational establishments in the following calendar years: 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023
For each recorded incident please include:
- The type of establishment (e.g primary school, secondary school, college)
- The crime type
- The age and sex of the suspect (if known and possible)

Q1 response: When reviewing the information, please note that it was obtained by searching for all crimes, recorded during the stated period, under the following offence classifications:
The resulting records were then manually reviewed to determine the type of weapon involved and the type of establishment where the offence took place.
Please note that suspect age data has been adapted in such a way as to ensure that no individual can be identified by virtue of Section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act. Exemption under Section 40(2) is applicable where the information requested relates to a third party or could lead to the identification of an individual which would be in breach of the Data Protection Act 2018, in particular Article 5(1) of the GDPR which states that personal data shall be processed lawfully, fairly and in a transparent manner in relation to the data subject.
