FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 343-2024
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 20th March 2024 as follows:
I am seeking to confirm how many residential burglaries have been solved during the period of 2020-2024 or 4 calendar yrs of data recorded by the police to all Incidents that have been attended.
On 20th March 2024 we requested the following clarification:
Please can you advise if the information you seek is a breakdown of burglaries by outcome for the period 2019 to 2023? Please could you also confirm whether the information you require relates to residential burglary only?
On 20th March 2024 you provided the following:
Thank-you for your response. I am seeking to confirm how many residential burglaries have been solved during the period of 2020-2024 or 4 calendar yrs of data recorded by the police to all Incidents that have been attended.
Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in providing the response to your request and for any inconvenience that this may have caused you. Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: Please be advised that not all of the requested information is held in a readily retrievable format. There is no way of readily identifying, from the Crime Recording System, whether an officer attended the scene of a burglary.
I can advise that in Warwickshire, throughout 2022 (and earlier), mandatory attendance was required in circumstances where a burglary of a residential dwelling involved persons entering the property and items being stolen. Then, in October 2022, the NPCC made a commitment that all police forces across England and Wales would attend all residential burglaries. More details can be found here:
However, in order to determine all information on attendance, and allow for any anomalies post October 2022, it would be necessary to examine each and every investigation on an in individual basis and cross reference with the Command & Control System. During the stated period there was a total of 5736 Residential Burglary offences recorded. A calculation of the time involved is set out below:
5736 @ 4 minutes per record = 22944/60 = 382 hours
In accordance with Section 12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please treat this letter as the Refusal Notice I am required to provide to you in respect of your request based on incidents attended. Please note that if one part of a request exceeds the fees limit, then Section 12 applies to the whole request.
In accordance with Section 16 of the Act I have a duty to provide advice and assistance in relation to the possibility of revising your request; however, due to the volume of records which would need to be examined, I am unable to suggest a way to revise your request into one that could be managed within the fees limit.
That said, I have provided below, a breakdown of the number of crimes of residential burglary recorded per year, together with a breakdown of outcomes of those investigations.
