FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI-185-2024
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 12th February 2024, as follows:
My question stems from scenario in cases where the crime is not in progress public are directed to use online reporting of a crime.
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: Please be advised that the requested information is not held in a readily retrievable format. When an incident is reported it is logged on the Command & Control System; however, in order to determine whether any incident with a location within the Nuneaton & Bedworth policing area was subsequently recorded as a crime (on the Crime Recording System) it would be necessary to review each and every incident on an individual basis. Once it was then established that a crime was recorded it would be necessary to determine whether the original incident log originated from a 999 call or online. As you will appreciate, this would involve the research of thousands of records and; therefore, the work required would exceed the amount to which we are legally required to respond i.e., the cost of locating and retrieving the information exceeds the ‘appropriate level’ as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004. For Police forces in the UK, the ‘appropriate limit’ is up to 18 hours of work on one request.
In accordance with s12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this letter acts as a Refusal Notice for this request.
In accordance with Section 16 of the Act I have a duty to provide advice and assistance; however, due to the number of records which would need to be individually reviewed, I am unable to suggest a way to reduce your request into one which could be managed within the fees limit as it currently stands.
I can advise that it may be possible to search for information just based on the number of incidents reported for the Nuneaton & Bedworth Policing Area and the number reported via 999 and online.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
