FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI-741-2024
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 16th August 2024 as follows:
This request concerns vehicle examinations following collisions.
Most modern vehicles store pre-crash data or ‘event data’ in their airbag control units when they are involved in a collision. The data can be accessed using specialist equipment (usually Bosch CDR or Crash Scan).
On 11th September 2024 we contacted you to advise that an exemption under Section 31 – Law Enforcement is engaged in relation to your request and that where public authorities have to consider the balance of the public interest in relation to a request, they do not have to comply with the request until such times as is reasonable in the circumstances and that when considering these matters authorities are entitled to extend the deadline for complying with a request. We advised that the new estimated date for compliance would be 14th October 2024.
