FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI-411-2024
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 11th April 2024 as follows:
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: Please be advised that the requested information is not available in a readily retrievable format. There is no way of easily identifying where a watch has been taken in a personal robbery (mugging), a domestic burglary, or in a theft offence. In order to provide an accurate response to your request it would be necessary to review each and every one of those offences, recorded during the state period, on an individual basis. The below provides an indication of the amount of work that this would involve:
With regard to Q3 – Warwickshire Police record, on average, approximately 300 personal robberies per year. For the time period requested this would equate to approximately 1,500 crimes and, at an estimate of 3 mins to review each crime, would total approximately 75 hours of work. This does not take in to account any personal robberies recorded in 2024.
With regard to Q4 – Warwickshire Police record, on average, approximately 2,000 domestic burglaries per year. For the time period requested this would equate to approximately 10,000 crimes and, at an estimate of 3 mins to review each crime, would total approximately 500 hours of work. This does not take in to account any domestic burglaries recorded in 2024.
Q5. This would require all offences of robbery, burglary and theft to be reviewed for mention of a watch being stolen. This would involve approximately 9,000 offences per year and would take an inordinate amount of time to review.
For these reasons such searches would exceed the cost threshold (£450), which equates to 18 hours work at a standard rate of £25 per hour, as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.
In accordance with section 12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this letter is a Refusal Notice for these parts of the request, and, if one part of a request exceeds the fees limit, then section 12 of the Act applies to the whole request.
In accordance with Section 16 of the Act I have a duty to provide advice and assistance; however, I am unable to suggest a way to revise these elements of your request into ones which could be managed within the fees limit.
However, I can advise that, were you to resubmit your request and remove those questions, it may be possible to conduct searches within the fees limit for Q1, Q2 and Q8. Please note that, for Q1, there is no offence description of ‘mugging’ and this would be interpreted as a request for information relating to the offence of ‘Robbery - Personal Property’.
With regard to Q6 and Q7 please be advised that this information is not held by Warwickshire Police.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
