FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 402-2024
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 10th April 2024 as follows:
In line with the legal recognition of ethical veganism as a protected philosophical belief under the Equality Act 2010 since January 2020, and in the context of veganphobia or hate against vegans, please provide the number of incidents logged in your force of hate crime where it is mentioned that the victims or complainants were vegan, for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.
Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in providing the response to your request and for any inconvenience that this may have caused. Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: Searches were conducted for all notifiable offences with a marker ‘Hate Motivated – Alternative Sub Culture’, recorded during the stated period. The resulting records were then manually reviewed to identify any offences related to veganism. I can advise that, based on the searches undertaken, no records were located.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
