FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI-853-2023
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 14th September 2023 and clarification received on 18th September 2023 as follows:
I wondered if you would be able to supply me with the number of car thefts recorded by month, since 2013? (If the past ten years would take too long, the past five would work!)
On 15th September 2023 we contacted you as follows:
We can provide the number of crimes recorded under Home Office code 48/1 – ‘Theft of a motor vehicle’: however, to try to establish whether these relate specifically to ‘cars’ as opposed to vans, motor homes, motorcycles etc would take an inordinate amount of time and would exceed the appropriate fees limit.
Do you require the number of ‘Theft of a motor vehicle’ offences or something else?
Please also note that, due to changes in systems, this information would only be available in full calendar years from 2018 onwards.
Please clarify how you wish to proceed.
On 18th September 2023 you provided the following clarification:
Theft of a motor vehicle would be fine, thank you!
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: Due to changes in systems, it is not possible to retrieve information prior to 4th October 2017; therefore, searches were conducted for all Theft of Motor Vehicle offences under HOCR 48/01, recorded between 1st January 2018 and 18th September 2023. The results are set out below by month and year.
