FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI-941-2023
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 12th October 2023 as follows:
Under the Freedom of Information Act, could you please tell me for the years 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 [current number as of 12th October]:
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: Please be advised that the information requested is not held centrally and is not available in a readily retrievable format. There is no qualifier or Disposal Code for 'Suicide/Suicide Risk' within the Command and Control System and suicides would be recorded under the Disposal code of PS06.1 ‘SUDDEN DEATH’. During the period 01/01/2019 to 30/06/2021 alone there were 2,266 such records and this is only a fraction of the period requested, meaning there would be an inordinate amount for the entire period. In order to determine the number of such recorded incidents which relate to suicide/ suspected suicide of a female it would require reading each and every log on an individual basis. It would then be necessary to cross reference the details of the individual with other information held on the Command and Control System / Crime System to determine whether domestic abuse had been a concern/previously recorded. This would take between 2 and 10 minutes per record (depending upon whether suicide of a female is identified and further searches needing to be conducted). An estimate of the cost involved just for the period 01/01/2019 to 30/06/2021, at 2 minutes per record, is set out below; however, due to the longer time period requested and the further investigations which would possibly be necessary in some cases, this would in fact be considerably greater.
2266 records between 01/01/2019 to 30/06/2021 @ 2 minutes per record = 76 hours
Therefore, the work involved in locating, retrieving and recording the information requested exceeds the cost threshold (£450), which equates to 18 hours work at a standard rate of £25 per hour, as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.
In accordance with s12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this letter acts as a Refusal Notice for this request.
In accordance with Section 16 of the Act I have a duty to provide advice and assistance; however, I am unable to suggest a way to reduce your request into one which could be managed within the fees limit for this element.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
