FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 1091-2023
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 29th November 2023 as follows:
Q1. Does your police force have a Police Link Officer for Deaf People (PLOD) scheme?
Q1a. If so, how many PLOD officers does your force have?
Q1b. What British Sign Language (BSL) qualifications do those PLOD officers have?
Q2. How many of your officers have received Deaf Awareness training?
Q3. How many suspect interviews have required the use of a BSL-English Interpreter in the last 12 months (from date of request)?
On 30th November 2023 a request for clarification was sent to you as follows:
Please can I just check with you what period you are looking for when you refer to the ‘last 12 months’ – is this full calendar year 2022, full financial year 2022/23 or 12 months previous to the date of your request (ie 01/12/2023 to 30/11/2023).
On 5th December 2023 you provided the following information:
Please could I have 12 months previous to the date of my request if possible?
Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in providing the response to your request and for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Q1 response: Yes
Q1a response: 11
Q1b response: The training was work-related sign language to enable more effective communication and included deaf awareness (no specific level of BSL).
Q2 response: Information relating to previous training is no longer held. I can however advise that Warwickshire Police are in the process of commissioning new training.
Q3 response: Information not held. Whilst we know the number of requests for a BSL interpreter, this does not detail whether it was for a suspect interview.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
