FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 1018-2023
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 06th November 2023 as follows:
In the event of a Road Traffic Collision where the Police attend:
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: There is no requirement to complete a roadside eyesight test and this does not feature in any Warwickshire Police policy. Officers may choose to carry out a test if they have concerns that eyesight may have been a factor in any collision. If a driver fails a test Warwickshire Police refer them to the DVLA.
However, with regard to the number of tests carried out, this information is not centrally recorded and it would be necessary to conduct extensive searches involving locating the linked Incidents and notes from police pocket note books in relation to all collisions, recorded during the stated period, to determine whether reference had been made to a sight test having being carried out. As you will appreciate, this manual process would take an inordinate amount of time and the cost of providing you with the information is above the amount to which we are legally required to respond i.e. the cost of locating and retrieving the information exceeds the ‘appropriate level’ as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.
In accordance s12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this letter acts as a Refusal Notice for this element of your request.
In accordance with Section 16 of the Act I have a duty to provide advice and assistance in relation to your request; however, due to the amount of records which would need to be examined, I am unable to suggest a way to pare down your request into one which could be managed within the fees limit.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
