Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: Please be advised that information in relation to value of goods stolen is not centrally recorded and, therefore, not held in such a way to allow easy retrieval. In order to attempt to determine such information it would be necessary to examine each and every investigation on an individual basis. During the stated period there were over 4500 Theft from a Motor Vehicle offences recorded and, at approximately 5 minutes per record, it is estimated that the work involved would take in excess of 375 hours. This would be above the amount to which we are legally required to respond i.e. the cost of locating and retrieving the information exceeds the ‘appropriate level’ as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this letter acts as a Refusal Notice for this part of the request and, if one part of a request exceeds the fees limit, then S12 of the Act applies to the whole request.
In accordance with Section 16 of the Act I have a duty to provide advice and assistance in relation to your request; however, due to the volume of records involved, I am unable to advise of a way to revise this element of your request to one which could be carried out within the fees limit.
As a gesture of goodwill I have provided a response to Q1 which is set out below. Please note that provision of the information should not be taken as a precedent that additional information would be supplied outside of the time/fees legislation for any subsequent requests.
