FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI-1141-2023

I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 19^th December 2023 as follows:

1. How many crimes have been committed by under 10-year-olds in your police force in the following years:

2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023

2. Can you also please detail what the most common type of crime was committed by those under 10 years of age?

Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in providing the response to your request and for any inconvenience this may have caused you.  Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.

When reviewing the information please note that it was obtained by searching for crimes, recorded during the stated period, where one or more suspects are under the age of 10.  Any outliers brought back within the data (this was deemed as any age showing as 2 or under (including negative figures)) were manually reviewed for accuracy.  In 25 cases it was shown that the suspect ages returned had been calculated incorrectly due to a number of factors, and these were removed from the data.

Q1 response:

*A crime may have more than one suspect aged under 10

Q2 response: In all specified years the most common type of crime recorded where a suspect is under the age of 10 is ‘Assault without Injury - Common assault and battery’.
