FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 1098-2023
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 4th December 2023 as follows:
Q1. Does Warwickshire police issue tasers to all frontline police constables?
Q2. If not then, which officers are issued tasers and which officers are eligible for taser training? (e.g all new police constables)
Q3. Regarding taser training - how long does this take and is there some form of certificate to confirm an officer’s completion of taser training?
Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in providing the response to your request and for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Q1 response: No
Q2 response: Officers from various roles are eligible for training. They can apply by completing an application, which needs to fulfil set national and local criteria.
Q3 response: An initial taser user course is 3 days, and a minimum of 18 hours contact time. If successful, an authorised STO must requalify within 365 days by attending a one-day requalification refresher with 6 hours contact time. Officers do not receive a certificate but do hold a card.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
