FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI-745-2023
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 11th August 2023 as follows:
I’m writing to request any data you might have about the reports of lost engagement and wedding rings.
Depending on your records, it would be great to see the numbers from the last 10-15 years, ideally split by month and year.
Are you able to reveal the gender of the person filing the report, as well?
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: Please be advised that the Warwickshire Police response to your request is ‘no information held’.
In the event that someone reported to a Station Front Office that they had lost a ring then the officer would check to see if there was record of the item having been handed in. If not, then the individual would be advised that, since items get handed in frequently, to check again. There generally would not be a record made of a loss. That said, the Property Management System does have a facility to record reports of lost items and, historically, this was used to record lost items; however, this is now only done on very rare occasions when it is deemed a report is needed. Entries on the Property Management System are weeded after 28 days as there is only a requirement to retain a record of items we take possession of; therefore, no information is held in relation to historic information. Searches have been conducted of the Property Management System for any entries of lost rings that are currently retained and this has returned no results.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
