FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: 730-2023
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 7th August 2023 as follows:
1) Please can I have the number of incidents where high value watches (value over £1,000) have been reported stolen to your force. Please can I have the data broken down into four financial years. 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-present.
2) Please can I have the number of these thefts that also includes assaults / violence towards the victim during the robbery and the number of these victims that needed subsequent hospital attention. Please can I have the data broken down into four financial years. 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22 and 2022-present.
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below.
Response: Please be advised that the requested information is not available in a readily retrievable format. There is no way of identifying a theft of a watch and in order to provide a response to your request it would be necessary to review an inordinate amount of offences on an individual basis. Just for the 3 financial years 2019/20, 2020/21 and 2021/22 there is a total of 13,728 offences recorded in relation to Burglary, Robbery or Theft which, at 2 minutes per offence, would equate to 458 hours of work just to establish whether a watch was stolen. Further work would then be required to determine whether a value is recorded and whether there are any associated crimes.
Therefore, the work involved in locating, retrieving and recording the information requested exceeds the cost threshold (£450), which equates to 18 hours work at a standard rate of £25 per hour, as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.
In accordance with s12(1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this letter acts as a Refusal Notice for this request.
In accordance with Section 16 of the Act I have a duty to provide advice and assistance; however, I am unable to suggest a way to reduce your request into one which could be managed within the fees limit.
Every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is as accurate as possible.
Your attention is drawn to the below which details your right of complaint.
Should you have any further enquiries concerning this matter, please write or email the Freedom of Information Unit quoting the reference number above.
Yours sincerely
