FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI-374-2023
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 5th April 2023 as follows:
Please prioritise answering questions 1 and 2, and provide the additional information requested for each question in order of priority according to the limits of FOI requests.
Please find the Warwickshire Police response set out below. When reviewing the information please note the following:
Q1 response: 762 (01/01/2022 to 31/03/2023)
Q2 response: 351 (01/01/2022 to 31/03/2023)
Q3a response:
Driving an uninsured vehicle:
The penalty for driving an uninsured vehicle is £300 and six penalty points.
I can advise that, of the 762 individuals in response to Q1, 207 have paid the fine. The DVLA is responsible for adding the correct number of points to the licence, and the driver is responsible for ensuring that the licence is sent for endorsement.
Please note that the majority of the remaining number will be where the fine has not been paid and the case will have gone to Court, others because they are recent and still in process etc.
Driving without a valid MOT certificate:
No information held. The penalty for driving without a valid MOT certificate is £100 only. No points are given for this offence.
Q3b response: No information held. Warwickshire Police only hold the age of a driver at the time an offence is committed and not when points are added (as age may be different from time of offence/time fine paid and the licence being endorsed by the DVLA). In order to provide assistance I have provided the number of offences of ‘driving an uninsured vehicle’, broken down by age (driving without a valid MOT certificate has not been provided as this does not incur points).
