FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO: FOI 264-2021
I write in connection with your request for information which was received on 19th March 2021 as follows:
- Please provide the number of complaints you have received where men say their sperm has been 'stolen' ie used without consent and then a child has been born in each of the following calendar years:
- 2017
- 2018
- 2019
- 2020
- 2021 to date
- If possible can you please include any details on the nature of reported cases and also the outcome of the cases in each of the calendar years outlined above.
- I understand this comes would be classed under the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act which has code of 99/99 please do a keyword search of the words “sperm” and “semen" for the following years and provide any details for the following years:
- 2017
- 2018
- 2019
- 2020
- 2021 to date

Response: Searches were conducted of our systems for the following keywords: %SPERM%, %sperm%, %Sperm%, %SEMEN%, %semen%, %Semen% and the resulting records were then checked for relevance. Searches were also conducted for offences under HO code 099.99. I can advise that, based on these searches, our response to your request is ‘zero’.
