FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NOs: West Mercia Police 11556 and Warwickshire Police 11557
I write in connection with your requests for information which were received on 1st April 2019. Please find below the responses to your requests for West Mercia Police and Warwickshire Police information:
1) How many missing persons incidents have been reported to the force in the last three years? For this and all questions in point 2, please break down the figures by financial year: 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and the following age ranges: 0-17, 18-35, 36+
2) Out of those:
i. How many have been solved? Please give a further breakdown of the number with those found dead or alive.
ii. How many still remain open or active? Please give a further breakdown of the number with gender, ages and dates (month/year) of when they were first reported missing.
iii. How many of all the missing person cases were highlighted as being at risk of:
a. Child sexual exploitation
b. Abuse
c. Trafficking
d. Mental health concerns
iv. How many of all the missing person cases resulted in murder investigations?
As stated previously, please break down figures for all the above questions by financial year: 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and the following age ranges: 0-17, 18-35, 36+
3) Which are the five longest running unsolved missing persons inquiries on record? Please provide the following details for each one: names, ages and dates of when they were first reported missing.
4) Which are the five longest running closed missing persons cases on record? Please provide the following details for each one: names, ages and dates of when they were first reported missing, date of when the case closed, whether the person was found dead or alive or if no body was recovered.
REPLY:
Please be advised that the information that you have requested is not available in a readily retrievable format. The information regarding As stated previously, please break down figures for all the above questions by financial year: 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and the following age ranges: 0-17, 18-35, 36+ is not held centrally or in an electronically retrievable format.
There are in excess of 12,621 records which would have to be reviewed in order for us to identify the relevant information for your request. Should it take approximately 1 minute per record this would equate to in excess of 210 hours of work. Therefore the cost of providing you with the information is above the amount to which we are legally required to respond i.e. the cost of locating and retrieving the information exceeds the 'appropriate level' as stated in the Freedom of Information (Fees and Appropriate Limit) Regulations 2004.
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, this letter acts as a Refusal Notice for this part of the request and if one part of a request exceeds the fees limit then S12 of the Act applies to the whole request
However, In accordance with Section 16 of the Act I have a duty to provide advice and assistance in relation to your request and can provide the information requested for remanding questions as this was retrieved during our initial research. This should not be taken as a precedent that additional information would be supplied outside of the time/fees legislation for any subsequent requests
