As a student you will be dealing with a lot of E-mails, whether that be promotions for discounts on takeaways or work opportunities in and out of the institution you attend, this means that you may not be too focused on who is sending these E-mails and might be quick to click on a link especially if there is the promise of money involved. How can you tell whether you are being scammed or if what you are clicking is legitimate.
Click on the senders email address and check if the web address and if it matches up with what the E-mail is addressing, for example are they claiming to be a company from the UK but the email have come from a personal gmail account?
Look out for spelling errors, the senders are often from another country attempting to get your details so spelling mistakes are quite common. Remember, Large corporations will never have a grammatical errors.
Never send any personal or financial data to the E-mail of someone you do not know as after it is sent there is no going back
If you can avoid it, don’t click the links in an email, always navigate to the site or your account via your browser, never through how the email is asking you to.
