Over the course of last week, Nuneaton and Bedworth Safer Neighbourhood Team have been proactively seizing e-scooters being ridden illegally.
While out on patrol on Friday (24 January), officers came across one e-scooter rider who had collided with a car in Camp Hill prior to police arrival and sustained serious injuries.
The young male rider was taken to hospital being treated for a dislocated knee and fractured collarbone.
Over the course of the operation, officers seized 45 e-scooters, one modified electric pushbike, two motorbikes (one seized from a 14-year-old without a license or insurance), and a stolen car.
The seized e-scooters will not be returned and will be crushed.
A stand was also set up on Saturday for the community to find out more about the law surrounding e-scooters and public roads.
PC Jonny Walker said “We’ve spent the last month or more warning riders of e-scooters that what they’re doing is not only illegal, but also dangerous.
“It’s unfortunate that Friday resulted in such a clear illustration of the risk that e-scooters riding in public present both to their riders and to other road users.
“We hope that those who own e-scooters will dig out their receipts and get their money back before anyone else gets hurt, or before we have to take them to be crushed.”
