Six more drivers, three men and three women, have lost their driving licences after appearing at Leamington Magistrates Court on 1 March 2024 charged with drink driving related offences.
Once again, the public have played a large part in ensuring drink and drug drivers are removed from the roads by providing information to the police that is then acted upon.
This includes 34 year old Bogdan COMAN MOROSAN from Aqua Place, Rugby who was arrested after a member of the public reported seeing a vehicle crashed into a bollard in John Barford Car Park, Railway Terrace, Rugby. Officers attended and observed Bogdan driving his car into a post. He was arrested at 00.46hours on 14 January 2024 and later charged with Failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
At court Bogdan was disqualified from driving for 48 months and sentenced to a Community Order with a 20 day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement. He must also carry out 100 hours supervised unpaid work within the next 12 months and pay £135 costs and £114 victim surcharge.
Thanks to a member of the public who called police to report that 61 year old Kay WRIGHT from Cromwell Lane, Coventry had driven in her vehicle when they believed she had been drinking, she was arrested at 13.37hours on 11 January 2024 on Coventry Road, Southam. She was later charged with drink driving.
In court, she was disqualified from driving for 14 months and fined £120. She was also ordered to pay £135 costs and £48 victim surcharge.
Twenty-one year old Bethany STRIDE from Offchurch was also removed from the roads thanks to a member of the public who rang police to report seeing her getting in to her car at McDonalds and driving off concerned she had been drinking. She was arrested at 04.14hours on 14 January 2024 in Clopton Road, Stratford after officers located her and she failed a roadside breath test.
She was banned from driving for 17 months and fined £276 after appearing in court charged with drink driving. She was also ordered to pay £135 costs and £110 victim surcharge.
Thirty-five year old Yogaraja RAJINTHAN from Burton Road, Midway, Swadlincote, Derbyshire came to the attention of officers when it was reported to police that he had reversed a Landrover Evoke into another vehicle leading to his arrest at 8.30hours on 13 January 2024 in Featherbed Lane, Rugby.
He was charged with drink driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance. In court he was disqualified from driving for 42 months and sentenced to a Community Order including a 10 day Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and to carry out 120 hours of supervised unpaid work within the next 12 months. He must also pay £135 costs and £114 victim surcharge.
Forty-two year old Nicola CAMPBELL from Watitune Avenue, Nuneaton was banned from driving for 17 months and fined £200 when she was sentenced for Failing to provide a specimen for analysis when she was arrested on 14 January 2024 in Castle Road, Nuneaton following a two car collision. She admitted having four pints of lager. She was also ordered to pay £135 costs and £80 victim surcharge.
Thirty-two year old Carl WICKS from Whiteley Close, Hunneybourne, Worcestershire was banned from driving for 14 months and fined £420 after appearing in court charged with drink driving on Evesham Road, Stratford-upon-Avon. He was ordered to pay £135 costs and £168 victim surcharge.
He was arrested at 17.38hours on 15 January 2024 when police were called to a collision and he was identified as the driver. He failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.
