Leanne Jackson, 36 from Denehurst Way, Nuneaton, has been sentenced to 38 weeks in prison for assaulting a police officer, two counts of stealing from shops, and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.
After her sentence on 22 March in Coventry Magistrates Court, Jackson will also be required to pay a victims surcharge of £154.
At a second hearing on the same day, Jackson was also found guilty on two charges of threatening and abusive behaviour, as well as one additional charge of theft from a shop.
On 27 March 2023 at around 6:45pm, Jackson entered a service station on Croft Road in Nuneaton, picked up two four-packs of lager, and walked out of the shop making no attempt to pay.
She was caught on CCTV, and a complaint was made to the police.
Approximately a week later on the 4 June, Jackson was again caught on CCTV walking into the same service station at around 7pm, grabbing two four-packs of beer, and leaving without payment.
On 26 September 2023, Jackson re-entered the same store at around 8:25pm, and stole £25 worth of goods.
Four days later at 5pm, Jackson urinated on the floor in Nuneaton town centre. Three days after this on the 3 October 2023, Jackson was involved in an altercation with another woman in the town centre.
Jackson was arrested the day after for public order offences and one count of theft from a shop for the incident on 26 September.
On 15 January 2024, a call was received by police from a chip shop on Tompkinson Road, Nuneaton. Jackson was intoxicated and throwing sachets of sauce around the shop and refusing to leave.
Officers arrived and escorted Jackson out of the shop, while Jackson verbally abused them. She was handcuffed and placed in the back of a police car, where she proceeded to bang her head against the car window.
To prevent Jackson from injuring herself or damaging the vehicle, officers attempted to remove her from the vehicle, at which point she kicked one of the officers in the face.
The following day during her interview, Jackson claimed no recollection of the events, as she had drunk two two-litre bottles of white cider and a small bottle of vodka.
In addition to the prison sentence and fine, Jackson has been given a criminal behaviour order that prevents her from entering Nuneaton town centre (with certain exceptions), prevents her from being in possession of open alcohol in the town centre, and prevents her from entering the service station on Croft Road.
PC Trotter of the North Warwickshire Patrol Investigations Unit said “Jackson’s behaviour towards our officers and the public is obviously totally unacceptable.
“There is no reason why the shopkeepers that she has targeted for theft or antisocial behaviour should have to put up with her, nor should my colleagues have to just accept her violence against them – whether she recollects her actions or not.”
PC Cooper from the Nuneaton Safer Neighbourhood Team said “A 38-week respite from Jackson will do the community good, and we are hoping that during that time Jackson will reflect on her own actions and consider seeking support to improve her own behaviour.
”Even if this doesn’t happen, the criminal behaviour order will improve our ability to take action before she reaches the point of causing further criminal harm.”
