Between Friday 8 and Sunday 10 March, four people have been arrested and charged with obstructing and assaulting police officers in Warwickshire.
Billy Whiteside
31-year-old Billy Whiteside of Vicarage Hill in Rugby has been charged with obstructing an officer, possession with intent to supply cannabis, driving dangerously and whilst disqualified, possessing an offensive weapon, and driving without insurance.
This followed an incident on 8 March during which a white transit van was reportedly asked to stop after allegedly driving through a red light in Rugby.
The van allegedly then drove down the wrong way down a one-way road before colliding with a car.
The driver reportedly decamped from the vehicle, and once officers caught up allegedly resisted arrest and had to be restrained.
Inside the van, officers reportedly discovered a large quantity of cannabis and weighing scales. A further search of the driver’s home allegedly found a police baton.
Whiteside will make his first appearance at Coventry Magistrates Court today (11 March).
Claire Goldie
Claire Goldie, 39 of Albury Drive in Nottingham, has been charged with assault by beating of an officer, being drunk and disorderly in a public place, and criminal damage under £5,000.
This follows an incident in the early hours of 9 March during which a man and a woman allegedly got into a car on High Street in Stratford, despite reportedly showing signs of being unfit to drive.
Officers then attended the car and arrested the male driver on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a vehicle.
The female passenger allegedly began shouting and swearing at officers and was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.
In the process of being taken to a police vehicle for transport, the woman allegedly kicked an officer twice in the stomach.
She then allegedly kicked the door of the police vehicle, reportedly causing damage to it.
Goldie will appear in Leamington Spa Magistrates Court on 17 May.
Following this incident, 41-year-old Forhad Ali of Cromwell Street, Nottingham was also charged with being in charge of a motor vehicle while over the limit and using a motor vehicle without a valid test certificate.
He will make his first appearance at Warwickshire Magistrates Court on 10 May.
Martin Edgar
Martin Edgar, 41 of Chester Street in Coventry, was charged with assault by beating of an officer, common assault, threatening behaviour, attempted theft from a shop, and two counts of theft from a shop.
This follows two incidents on 29 February and 5 March during which a man entered a store on Warwick Road in Kenilworth and allegedly stole bottles of spirits to an alleged total combined value of £300.
On a third occasion, a man allegedly entered the same store on 9 March, where he was reportedly recognised by the store manager from the previous two incidents.
The manager was allegedly assaulted by the man who then, after reportedly being detained until the arrival of police, allegedly shouted expletives loudly in the store.
After his arrest, the man allegedly kicked an officer in the leg when they attempted to intervene in his allegedly hostile behaviour towards another officer.
Edgar will appear in Coventry Magistrates Court on 11 March for his first hearing.
Anthony Wilde
Anthony Wilde, 34 of Stratford Avenue in Atherstone, was charged with two offences of causing actual bodily harm to an officer, driving without insurance, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis on request as a driver.
This followed an incident on Knowle Hill in Kingsbury around 12:50am on 10 March, during which a car was reportedly stopped for speeding.
The driver allegedly became confrontational on exiting the vehicle, and allegedly thrown multiple punches at the officers.
In the process of being arrested, the man allegedly attempted to pin one of the officers to the ground and allegedly also put her into a headlock.
Wilde will appear in Coventry Magistrates Court on 11 March for his first hearing.
