At around 11:15pm on Sunday 17 March 2024, officers were called to a metal works on Marsh Lane in Water Orton after four people were allegedly seen on camera throwing metal over the fence, setting off an alarm.
After stopping a black Vauxhall reportedly containing three men, three other men are alleged to have emerged from a hedge and attempted to escape on foot. The Vauxhall also reportedly made off, but not before one man was detained and arrested on suspicion of burglary.
The three who allegedly tried to escape on foot reportedly swam through a body of water before allegedly being picked up and entering the West Midlands in a van.
All five were later arrested by West Midlands Police on suspicion of burglary.
An estimated £13,000 of metal had allegedly been moved outside of the metalworks when police arrived.
Following this incident, Warwickshire Police arrested a 34-year-old man of no fixed address on suspicion of burglary.
West Midlands Police arrested five men – one 18 of no fixed address, one 24 from Dagenham, one 21 from Birkenhead, one 16 from Belvedere, and one 22 from Merseyside – all on suspicion of burglary.
Inspector Mark Calvert said “Decent security systems help us to detect and act on burglaries-in-progress.
“To any would-be burglars, we emphasise that just because you’ve made it across the county border doesn’t mean that you’ve escaped – a big thank you to our colleagues at West Midlands Police for their diligence.”
