Daniel Laws, 34 of Tarn Rise, Nuneaton, has been charged with five counts of theft from a shop and one count of attempted theft from a shop.
He has also been charged with six counts of breaching criminal behaviour orders – specifically, not to enter Nuneaton Town Centre; Horeston Grange Shopping Centre; nor a particular supermarket on Weddington Road and another on Kem Street.
This is following six incidents of theft from shops in Nuneaton which are alleged to have taken place between 15 October 2023 and 18 January 2024.
Three of these offences are reported to have taken place at a supermarket on Weddington Road on 15 October, 7 December, and 12 January, and involved the alleged thefts of meat and cheese products to a total of around £180 worth of items.
Two offences are alleged to have taken place at a large shop in Newtown Retail Park.
During the first on 12 January, a man was reportedly observed on CCTV taking £300 worth of cleaning and protein products from the store without paying for them.
The second of these incidents on 18 January involved a man allegedly being challenged on exit from the store by the security guard, resulting in the alleged discovery of air fresheners and other laundry items which had not reportedly been paid for.
The other incident of the total six reportedly took place in at a shop in Horeston Grange Shopping Centre, where on 16 January a man placed £200 worth of alcohol into a cart before leaving through the fire exit without paying.
Laws was arrested and charged on 19 January and will appear in Coventry Magistrates Court on Saturday 20 January 2024.
