Warwickshire Police was delighted to host the National Black Police Association (NBPA) Cabinet Meeting and quarterly NEC (National Executive Committee) event in January.
Hosted over two days, the Warwickshire Police B-ME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Network members coordinated the NBPA visit that brought together the shared commitment of addressing inequality within policing and supporting Black and Ethnic Minority groups reach their potential.
Jat Virk, Chair of the B-ME Network said:
“It was great to meet the National Black Police Association cabinet members and their executive committee members last week, we hosted their national events on Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 Jan at Warwickshire Police.
We learnt so much about the national landscape and took some key takeaways for our B-ME Network to continue develop our passion and drive to support Warwickshire Police and our B-ME colleagues.”
The event focused on the continuing journey to an anti-racist police service, recognising progress made and the persistent challenges we still face. The NBPA gave an insight to their commitment to implementing tangible measures that promote equality and justice.
Debbie Tedds, Chief Constable, members of the B-ME Network and a number of officer and staff colleagues took part in the event. They discussed the Police Race Action Plan and the Black Workforce Survey amongst other issues still prevalent in policing of Black and Black heritage communities.
Following the event, NBPA President Andy George said:
“The NBPA Cabinet and I were delighted to have the opportunity to spend some time with Warwickshire Police during our quarterly National Executive Committee meeting.
The visit allowed us to provide an update on the national picture including work we are involved with NPCC (National Police Chiefs’ Council), College of Policing and various community groups and develop consistency on what activities all local associations should be completing.
It was good to hear from B-ME members about some of the work they are involved with in Warwickshire Police and whilst there is always more work to be done, I am glad that B-ME network are an integral part of helping policing become an anti-racist service. I want to thank B-ME Chair Jatinder Virk, CC Tedds, ACC Smith, and everyone we met for their hospitality and engagement during our visit.”
We will reflect on learnings from the event here in Warwickshire as part of our continuing commitment to the Police Race Action Plan and improving public trust and confidence with all our workforce and in all our communities.
