On 30 December at around 8:25pm, PCSOs on patrol in Vale View, Nuneaton saw a group of men with a BMW, believed to have been stolen.
On seeing the PCSOs, the men fled the scene, with one hiding in a nearby bush.
He was discovered at 9:24pm by attending officers with parts from a second car, following reports from earlier in the night of a man matching his description interfering with a Range Rover.
Following this, a 37-year-old man from Nuneaton was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle, criminal damage to a vehicle, and conspiracy to steal.
PC Lily Patterson of Nuneaton Safer Neighbourhood Team said “Keeping a vigilant eye over your vehicles makes speedy and decisive action against all varieties of car thieves possible.
“If you’ve got a car sat out front, it’s well worth considering investing in a camera so we can quickly access evidence that could be crucial to the prosecution of offenders.
“Also, a big thank you to our keen-eyed PCSOs – remember that if something doesn’t feel right near you, you can always come and talk to a PCSO or an officer on patrol.”
