To mark Remembrance Day, we sat down and spoke to our Armed Forces Lead PC Scott Caswell and Geoff Wellington from the Veterans Contact Point about support available for veterans of the armed forces.
Geoff shared a story about a veteran who came to their attention after bursting through their front door following police contact, and how the charity worked with Warwickshire Police to ensure he got the attention he needed.
The Veterans Contact Point is an organisation run by volunteers which provides support for veterans and their families in Warwickshire, Coventry, and Solihull.
Their mission statement is “to help all serving members and veterans of the UK Armed Forces, their spouses, children, and dependents by working in partnership with others to assist in the provision of schemes, grants, and services for their resettlement, rehabilitation, retraining, employment, and welfare.”
Warwickshire Police was certified Gold under the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) in August 2019.
The ERS recognises organisations that employ and support veterans and their families.
