One of our officers has commended the strength shown by a victim of an attempted rape in Nuneaton after her 17-year-old attacker was jailed.
The boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, attacked the teenage girl on the evening of 11 May 2024 as she was walking along an alleyway between Plough Hill Road and Ansley Common.
A member of the public intervened after hearing the girl call for help and the offender ran away.
Our officers quickly identified who the offender was and he was arrested within two hours of the attack.
Last week at Birmingham Crown Court he was given an eight-year sentence after being found guilty of attempted rape. He had previously pleaded guilty to sexual assault.
The boy also pleaded guilty to sending a threatening communication to a teenage girl in Lancashire.
He will serve four years in jail before being released on licence for four years. The licence will have strict conditions to prevent him from reoffending. He was also put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
Detective Sergeant Matt Hall from Warwickshire Police said: “I’d like to commend the victim for the strength she has shown in supporting this investigation, by doing so she has helped keep others safe from such a dangerous offender.
“Incidents of this type are rare, but I hope the speed of our response and the thoroughness of the investigation reassures the local community.”
